Saint James Almonry

Saint James Almonry

Long considered to be a chapel or a guardhouse, the Saint James Almonry was in fact a hostel for pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela.

The floral decorations of the columns’ capitals are very similar to those of the Sénanque Abbey. The corners of one of the capitals shows scallop shells, the traditional emblem of pilgrims travelling to Santiago de Compostela.
